About this opportunity
The University of Delaware is inviting applications for a PhD Graduate Research Assistantship in the Muyyarikkandy Laboratory within the Department of Animal and Food Sciences.
The opportunity is designed for researchers interested in host–microbe interactions, antimicrobial resistance, gut health, probiotic bacteria, molecular microbiology, and nutritional programming.
The successful candidate is expected to begin the PhD programme in Spring 2027, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The assistantship provides a competitive graduate stipend together with tuition remission and health insurance, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Requirements
Who Can Apply?
Applicants with a Master of Science degree in microbiology, animal science, food science, veterinary science, molecular biology, nutrition or a closely related discipline are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidates holding a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent veterinary qualification are also encouraged to submit applications.
The laboratory will give considerable weight to candidates who have practical experience in areas such as:
• Bacterial culture
• Molecular microbiology
• RT-qPCR
• Mammalian or avian cell culture
• Animal handling under an approved research protocol
Experience with sequencing data analysis using R or Python is considered an advantage, although it is not mandatory. The successful candidate will be expected to develop computational skills during the first year of the programme.
