The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme is one of the most significant opportunities for African entrepreneurs. Every year, 1,000 entrepreneurs across Africa receive $5,000 in non-refundable seed capital, plus business training, mentorship and access to a powerful alumni network.
What you get

Who is eligible?
- African citizen or resident aged 18 or above
- Running a business less than 3 years old
- For-profit business only — not a charity or NGO
- Committed to completing the 12-week programme
You do not need a registered company. Many successful applicants apply with early-stage businesses.
What makes a strong application?
- A clear problem you are solving and for whom
- An Africa-focused business that creates jobs on the continent
- Traction or proof of concept — even small evidence helps
- Specific, realistic plan for how you will use the $5,000
The application process
- Online application via TEFConnect — applications typically open in January
- Business plan submission including model, target market and financials
- Screening and shortlisting by TEF
- Interview with TEF assessors
- Selection of 1,000 entrepreneurs and programme onboarding
