🌱 About the Program

7000 Languages is a global nonprofit dedicated to helping communities teach, learn, and sustain their endangered languages using open, accessible technologies (linguistlist.org). Their Fellowship offers:

  • Intensive, 10-week remote experience
  • Cohort-based peer learning and structured guidance

🎓 Fellowship Experience & Structure

Fellows work with their own language community to design and produce:

  • Digital courses, audio/text lessons, or grammar resources
  • Custom projects using the nonprofit’s language tech platform
  • Final deliverables showcased publicly at the Fellowship Showcase (7000 Languages, Reddit, 7000 Languages)

Your role includes project planning, community collaboration, tool training, content development, and course publication. You will also receive feedback and logging of project progress.

💵 Compensation & Attendance

  • Part-time, remote fellowship: ~10 hours/week for ~10 weeks
  • Stipend: Approximately $20/hour (USD) — total value varies by region/project (jobs.ffwd.org)
  • Open globally—no university enrollment required
  • Special emphasis on candidates from West & Central Africa (including Ghana), California, and Latin America (Global South Opportunities, jobs.ffwd.org)
