Overview

The Rhodes Scholarship is one of the world’s most prestigious academic awards, offering fully funded postgraduate study at the University of Oxford to exceptional leaders from Southern Africa.

  • Deadline: 1 August 2025 at 23:59 SAST
  • Eligible Countries: South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, or Eswatini; must have lived in one of them for at least five of the last ten years

Eligibility & Selection Criteria

  • Must hold a high academic record: First Class Honours or a GPA ≥ 3.7/4.0, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated leadership, public service, character, and integrity
  • Age: Generally 19–24 by Oct 1 the year you start; up to 28 in special cases (e.g., medical service or delayed graduation)

  • Application opens 1 June 2025 via the Rhodes Trust portal for Southern Africa (rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk)
  • Submit academic transcripts, personal/academic statements, CV, and referee details
